Frequently asked questions

How do I sign up for a Volt account?

You can do so on the Volt EV Charging App. Download the app on the Apple App or Google Play Store.

How long does it take to charge my car?

There are generally 5 main factors that can affect an EV’s charging duration:

  1. EV battery capacity: EVs with larger battery capacity (measured in kWh), will require a longer charging time compared to EVs with smaller battery capacities.
  2. State of charge: If you are charging your EV from a lower state of charge, say 20%, it will take longer to reach a full charge than if you are topping up from 50%.
  3. EV charger rating: The charging duration is affected by the output power of the charger you are using. For example, your EV will charge faster when using a 22kW charger compared to a 7kW charger.
  4. Maximum charging rate of the EV: You can only charge an EV’s battery at the maximum charge rate that the vehicle’s on-board charger can accept. For example, while it is perfectly safe to use a 22kW EV charger on an EV with a maximum charge rate of 7kW, the EV won’t be able to charge any faster than if it were connected to a 7kW EV charger.
  5. Environmental factors: A lower ambient temperature may increase the charging duration, particularly when using a rapid charger. Fortunately for us in tropical Singapore, this is unlikely to affect us.

How much does it cost to charge my car?

Our fees are charged on a pay-per-use model, based on an SGD per kilowatt-hour (SGD/kWh) rate. The kWh unit measures the amount of electrical energy supplied to charge your EV and is derived from electrical power (kW) multiplied by the amount of time (hours) the power is supplied.

Our charging rate varies for different chargers and locations. Please refer to the Volt EV Charging app for a comprehensive list of charging rates.
